Small tips to make your life easier in the kitchen

There are useful tips to use in the kitchen, sometimes inherited from our grandparents and sometimes acquired with experience. These small tips are excellent to help to solve some problems that may arise with a new kitchen; some may already be known, others are old but are nowadays considered ecologic tips.

• Coffee beans are great for absorbing less pleasant odours from hands.
• If you can not separate the clear egg yolk only from the eggshell, and carefully pour it into a hopper placed above a container: the yolk will be trapped and light fall into the container.
• To remove the hands smell of garlic or onion, rub your hands in a steel spoon – it supposedly absorbs odour.
• If you put too much salt in food, add a peeled potato as it will help absorb the excess salt.
• When boiling eggs, add them a pinch of salt, it prevents them cracking during cooking.
• Don’t put citrus or tomatoes in the refrigerator as low temperatures remove their flavour.
• To be able to extract more juice from a lemon or an orange just put them in the microwave for a few seconds before squeezing them.
• If you are preparing a sauce and it accidentally burns, pass it to a clean pan, continue cooking and add a little sugar – but not too much not to make the sweet sauce – the sugar will eliminate the burned odour and flavour.
• To clean an iron grill, you must only do it with salt and a dry paper towel, instead of using detergent.

• To make ice quickly use boiled water since it freezes faster than tap water.
• To help kitchen cupboards to slide better, put a little candle wax on the hinges.
• If you put a bay leaf into the rice pasta, cereals container it will prevent insects from forming.
• To have a well-smelling dustbin, just rub it with a little lemon juice, orange peel or a little ground tea.
• Whenever you break a glass, take the pieces with a paper towel, to avoid cuts or glass flakes.
• To clean the microwave, just put a bowl with water and 1 lemon slices inside and score around 2/3 minutes. Then pass a paper towel.
• If 2 glasses are stacked just put some ice in the glass that is in and dive the other in warm water, the temperature difference will make them take off.
• To clean windows mix 2 parts of water and 1 part of vinegar. With newspaper sheets rub the water with vinegar in the glass, they will shine like never before.
